After ~5,000 miles arrived in Greece!

It has been a long passage from Tortola, BVI to Preveza, Greece. We tied up at the town quay here in Preveza last night around 18:00 local time and enjoyed an evening ashore with a free concert and some great Greek food.

This morning we walked to the local port authority and cleared in. They sent us on an unnecessary trek to Customs, who told us they didn’t need to check Nakee’s papers as she is an EU registered yacht, so we walked back to the port authority and, after they checked I had paid the Greek cruising tax, let us go.

Since then I’ve visited three different chandleries for boat parts, four different opticians trying to get my eyeglasses repaired and then the Vodafone shop to try and buy a Sim card. It turns out that the best deals for Greek Sim cards require one to have a Greek tax number. So I was sent to the Greek tax office to apply for a number, but they turned me away as one can’t apply in person. They told me I had to hire a Greek accountant to do it for me. I found one nearby, but the accountant sent me somewhere else to have my signatures on papers witnessed so I’ll go back there tomorrow morning and hopefully the government computer system will be working and the accountant can complete the process and issue me a Greek tax number. Then I can go back to Vodafone and get a good Sim deal. I will need the Greek tax ID anyway for other purposes so I’m glad to be able to get that done.

Next up is going back to the boat and giving her a good wash to get all the salt off from the rather rough passage from Italy.
