Goodbye Capo Carbonara, sails set for the Aeolian Islands

After two days at anchor in crystal clear waters off Capo Carbonara, we have set sail this morning for Vulcano, one of the Aeolian Islands N.E. Of Sicily. They are 257 nm away and the forecast is for light winds, so it will take us a few days to get there.

Yesterday we took the local “Summer Bus” from the marina at Capo Carbonara into the nearest town, Villasimius, had a wander about, a great lunch at a place called Sardus Focacceria Gourmet and then got provisions at a “Eurospin” Supermarket that had a surprisingly great selection of veg, meat, cheese and bread. We got steaks and barbecued them on the boat for dinner with a large Greek salad.

The swimming in the bay from the boat was really nice, wide open space, flat, clear water and no jet skis buzzing around so we all got some much needed exercise. There appears to be a big local scuba diving scene here, but unfortunately we didn’t have the time to go check that out, as we are on a schedule to get to Greece so the crew can fly back to the UK.
