We had an easy passage from Majorca to Sardinia, with light winds and flat seas all the over except for the last few hours, when the wind got up to 25 kts and the sea started to build as we approached Sant’Antioco, South-West Sardinia. We decided that carrying on overnight to our planned destination on Capo Carbonara, on the South-Eastern tip of Sardinia, wouldn’t be fun in the heavy weather. Also, arriving at 03:00 am in the dark to anchor in a new place wouldn’t be fun and would run the risk of not seeing the numerous fishing traps local fishermen put out.
So we sailed to an empty anchorage on Sant’Antioco, got in the lee of the island and dropped the hook in 5 meters of water at 16:15, had a swim in super clear water, while the wind continued to howl around the boat.
After the swim I made two batches of whole lime margaritas which the crew enjoyed very much! Dinner was a vegetarian lentil curry I cooked up, with carrots, onions, fresh ginger, garlic, potatoes and a teamed jasmine rice on the side.
This morning we got up at 06:00 am and weighed anchor at 06:30. We are now on our way to Capo Carbonara, about 50 miles away, and hope to get there before sunset. We are looking forward to finding a local restaurant to have Carbonara on Capo Carbonara and imagine it will taste very good!
After Capo Carbonara we plan to sail to the Aeolian Islands, North of Sicily, spend a day or two anchored off Vulcano, which will set up us for the passage South through the Messina Straight, between Sicily and Southern Italy, and then around to Preveza, Greece, so the crew can fly home to the UK.
