We have been doing quite a bit of upwind sailing to work our way from the Heraklion airport, where Kelvin joined the crew, back towards Athens. The Meltemi is still blowing strongly from the North, so we are zig-zagging our way from one island to the next, North to set us up for more of a beam reach West towards Athens, where we plan to arrive on Friday, 25th of September to set us up for a crew change and to attend a STCW course in Piraeus. We did about 20nm upwind from Sifnos Island to Paros Island yesterday in 25-28 winds and big seas, having spent a day not sailing in Sifnos the day before, waiting for the Meltemi winds to calm down a bit. Had a nice run ashore and the prices were much cheaper on Parsos then they were on Santorini Island.
Beautiful photos, thank you for sharing. Reminds me of my sailing trips in that area. Santorini for sure is a highlight despite of its tourism. I still remember the Meltemi in that area even though it must have been 20 years ago. Other than “the rest of us” you’re not in a hurry and can plan flexibility to avoid it when it’s too strong and adjust your route – what a privilege!
