Anchor weighed, sails set for Chaguaramas, Trinidad

This morning we got up at 04:00 Barbados time and I took Andy and Lena to the Speightstown dock by dingy. It was a bit hairy for them to get off the dingy and climb up onto the dock due to a very rough sea state. I had to stay in the dingy and keep the motor running to avoid being taken by a wave and dumped on the beach, so we waved our good byes. I later received a text that they managed to get on the bus to the airport and are on their respective ways – Andy back to the UK and Lena to Dominica.

It was great having crew for my first trans-Atlantic but now I’m back to single-handing. I cleared out of Barbados today and then went grocery shopping in Speightstown, returned and spent the afternoon getting Nakee ready for sea. I was originally going to leave Barbados at 22:00 so as to arrive in Chaguaramas Wednesday morning, but I got worried about other yachts having anchored near me at Port St Charles and potentially having their anchor chains overlaying mine. Didn’t want to have that mess in the dark, so decided to set out early. Will heave-to when I’m out at sea to slow myself down.

Yesterday when I was cooking Thai green chicken curry (special request from Andy for their last meal on board), the generator, which was running at the time, unexpectedly shut down and I can’t get it started again. Sigh. One more problem to add to the to-do list for professional help in Chaguaramas. Now relying on the main engine for battery charging.

Looking forward to stargazing tonight and landfall in Trinidad Wednesday morning.
