We have had quite a heavy sea-state and following seas to deal with for the last few days, with wind in the mid-30kts and 5 meter waves. Nakee was sometimes hitting 9kts speed over ground surfing down these giant waves. Life on board has to slow down as the boat rolls heavily as the waves travel beneath the hull. Today the winds are moderating back into the low 20s and I’ve swapped the staysail for a reefed Genoa. As a write we have some 266 nautical miles to go to Mindelo. A
s Noonsite advises against entering the Harbour there after dark, we may have to heave-to and delay our entry to daylight hours. Apparently navigation marks and lights are unreliable and there are wrecks and unlighted, abandoned boats moored in the harbor.
It is hard to show the following sea and waves in picture or video, the lens tends to flatten them out, but nevertheless here is some video footage.
