Champagne conditions on passage from Pig Beach in the Exumas to the oldest city in the USA, St Augustine
Shane caught at 10 kilo barracuda which we released as one that large could have toxins requiring hospitalization. We think we also briefly had a very big yellow fin tuna on the hook, but he slipped off the lure. The fishing net on a pole I have , quite large i thought, turned out not to be big enough to retrieve the barracuda so Shane put on gloves, climbed down on the transom with a needle-nosed pliers and freezes him with some difficulty. Dangerous situation while Nakee underway (I had furled the Genoa to slow us down) and the very large teeth of that fish trying to attack you!
Now approaching Freeport, Bahamas with lots of marine traffic and what looks to be a major fire burning at sea, just off Freeport. Hope we won’t breathe in toxic smoke, we have to sail by there to make our course for St Augustine.
